Overcoming thermal challenges in power electronics with aluminum substrates

The main problem with printed circuits using silicon technology is overheating due to the Joule effect, which shortens the circuit's lifespan.

In certain applications, this is a major problem.

I.M.S. (Insulated Metal Substrate) technology is our solution to overheating. This technology combines an insulated metal substrate with a copper layer to ensure maximum heat dissipation and guarantee the long-term durability and reliability of the circuits.

I.M.S. stands for Insulated Metal Substrate. It proves particularly effective in all applications where currents reach hundreds of amperes and where high heat dissipation capacity combined with great mechanical strength is required.

This solution offers an insulated metal substrate consisting of a layer of copper (of varying thicknesses), an electrical insulator, and a metal base.

I.M.S. boards are used for: 

  • optimize heat transfer from active components or LEDs to the heat sink
  • reduce assembly time for operators working on power equipment, where otherwise there would be many components that need to be secured individually with screws, washers, and silicone grease.

The distinctive feature of this type of board is that it offers high quality at a very low cost for mass production.
